"Par-dessus bord-Tori no tobu takasa" is Oriza Hirata's adaptation of "Par-dessus bord" by Michel Vinaver, a leading French playwright. "Par-dessus bord-Tori no tobu takasa" was performed in Tokyo and Kyoto in 2009 and then it was presented in 5 venues in France including Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. A collection of both the original and adapted versions was published in French.

For this Théâtre de Gennevilliers (artistic director: Pascal Rambert) production, Hirata revised his play for the French audience. The cast consisted of eight French and two Japanese (Seinendan) actors. The Libération referred to this piece and the 2008 Seinendan production of "Tokyo Notes" at the same venue, and defined the 2008-2009 as Oriza Hirata's season, making his career in France as playwright and director established.

Produced by the Centre Dramatique National de Besançon where Sylvain Maurice is artistic director, this piece was then presented in five cities in France and also in Tokyo. Three Seinendan actors participated in this Japanese/Iranian/French co-production. For this international collaboration across languages and cultures, Hirata wrote a new, short piece entitled "Christmas in Tehran," which he also directed.

"Songs of Farewell"

Oriza Hirata wrote "Songs of Farewell," his first play intended for a French audience, for this production by Centre Dramatique de Thionville-Lorraine in which four Seinendan members (three actors and one staff member) participated. Overwhelmingly well-received, this piece was performed in twenty-nine cities including Paris and Tokyo over three seasons. This success marked a new start of Hirata's further collaborations in France.

Another production of “Citizens of Seoul” by a French director in 2006, following Fisbach's production in July. Meunier had presented "La Demande d'Emploi" (by Michel Vinaver) at Komaba Agora Theater in autumn 2005 with 4 Japanese actors (3 from Seinendan).

The tour marked the second European tour for Seinendan following the 2002 tour of "Tokyo Notes".  It was also the first ever two-week run in France for Seinendan.

Le Monde carried an article about this production on its front page and many more newspapers rated the show highly. Hirata became established as a "Japanese Chekhov" or "Chekhov's grandson."

Produced in Brest. The first Hirata piece performed in Europe. The production won a number of favorable reviews on major newspapers and theater magazines in France. Three actors (two from Seinendan) and one staff joined the production from Japan. Fisbach had produced and presented “Nous, les Heros” at Komaba Agora Theater (written by Jean-Luc Lagarce) in autumn 1999 as a preparation for this collaboration.

Hirata's simultaneous conversations method was pursued to the limit with this piece, which was highly acclaimed both in Korea and Japan.

Seinendan’s second production in Korea was part of "Japan Week" by the Seoul Arts Center, a national theater that mainly shows contemporary dramas. The subtitle display system developed by Seinendan enabled this production to be in Japanese with Korean subtitles. The set design was a collaborative work between a Seinendan and a Korean scenographer.

Seinendan’s first overseas performance. This production was something of a milestone: The Japanese presenting a work by a Japanese playwright in Korean in Korea. It created a great sensation in the Korean theater scene. Although this was an independent production, the members of Mokhwa Repertory Company in Seoul and many other Korean theater people supported the realization of this work.
